Canoe Journey - The Fantastic 4
As this is only the first week with our group, there was not much work to be done aside from setting up the basics we'll be frequently using throughout our tenure as a group. We decided on our team name, story of choice, and team member roles.
Overview
During our first meeting, we introduced ourselves and got to know each other. We came up with our team name, The Fantastic 4, chose our ideal story, bearing a few questions about the scope with the students, as well as who will be focusing on what particular roles or helping a hand where need be. We set up our blog website that you are currently reading, a Trello board for our backlog, a GitHub repository for managing our project, and a Drive folder for documents and assets.
Challenges
Obviously the most difficult part of this week was selecting the story we will be devoting our term project to. While we liked the idea of Story 2, we felt Story 1, the Canoe Journey, had the clearest vision for the project. However, the decision wasn't as simple as that. We believe we picked the best roadmap, but the scope is a little daunting. We hope that when we get to talk to the students who created this story on Wednesday, we will be able to narrow each of the timelines down to a few bullet points. We figured it would be easier to narrow down an already broad scope in Story 1, than it would be to flesh out a narrow scope in Story 2.
Successes
Very successful start to the week as we nailed down a consistent meeting time each week and determined our roles. Each week, we plan to meet either before or after this class on Wednesdays so that way we con build off our scrum meeting and set out a plan so we have the whole week to work on our own or schedule another meeting if necessary. Our team is split evenly with two Programmers and two Designers so we hope this works out well for us given Story 1 seems like there needs to be a lot of assets created.
Next Steps
Moving forward this week we'll have to meet with the students from Algonquin to narrow down the scope that way we can start our Proposal that is due on February 11th, along with an Alpha Presentation.
